Create real structures and working objects with K’NEX “Bricks”, “Rods” and “Connectors”. There are tons of unique and fun examples out there, from tension bridges, to motorized tanks and automatic transmissions, to amusement park rides, to crazy Rube Goldberg contraptions.

The magic of K’NEX are its flexible rods that are perfect for flexible tracks, loops or DNA helixes. The connectors allow 45 degree connections and can even be connected directly together into platforms or ramps. Bricks are very similar to LEGO, but have very slightly rounded corners.
Not all K’NEX products are Made in USA (Lincoln Logs are imported), but they have a list here that is pretty comprehensive with dozens of American kit. It would be great if more companies had a page like this:

One might think “My kid already has Lego set. We don’t need another building set”. Well if you think so, then check out the Free Universal Construction Kit, that when paired with the Makerbot (also Made in USA and reviewed by US Groove!) you can 3D print your own connectors that will interface with almost all the other kits! Lincon Logs, Zoob, Tinker Toys, Duplo and more! But even if you don’t want to go this route – the K’NEX has special powers, unlike LEGO, that are able to create wide-spanning and flexible structures.
