Huntington, IN was once an automotive town, but has evolved into a grill town. You can see the pride in every detail of their gas barbecue grills. Upon opening the box, you experience the care in which each part has been placed in the box, and can feel the strength of each component as well as appreciate the choice of materials for each part.
We found our Huntington Rebel II on sale at our local OSH, so we were able to inspect every wonderful detail before purchasing. We immediately noticed the solid cast metal hood that was sturdier than all other models we looked at. Even though it is heavy, there is a balance to it that makes opening and closing an easy task. The stainless steel sheeting also feels stronger than the competition. It is either heavier gauge or it is supported intelligently within. Give it a good push- jiggle test and you can tell the difference. We were also pleasantly surprised to see the grill surface is ceramic coated steel, and all the tactile points of contact are comfortable to the touch… and the product box would actually fit in our hatchback (barely!).
Although Huntington spares no expense in the construction process, you begin to see where they pass on the cost-savings to the customer. Many of the parts are shared throughout the various models. The luxury grills may have more components than the lower cost models, but often they are the same components – so everyone experiences the same quality, no matter what your budget. Also many of the parts are also used on the Broil King models. We were also impressed with the industrial quality temperature gauge and the covered side burner, and especially the 50,000 BTUs of flaming dinosaur (thanks Etienne!). It doesn’t take long to get up to 650 degrees.
Assembly was easy enough in “solo mode”. The side burner and shelving have a clever hooking system that keeps them in place temporarily while tightening the screws below.
We have noticed some of the other brands are getting our “Party Pooper Award” for recent offshoring manufacturing, so give Huntington a try. You will not regret it!
